Tomdroid with Ubuntu One syncing goodness

I am loving keeping my Tomboy notes syncing between computers via Ubuntu One, and I just couldn't wait any longer for my Droid to have the same syncing working.

The Tomdroid developers have been working on this, but they haven't released the updates.  So, I pulled down the source, and built the package.  I am making it available for any other brave souls that want to try it.

Warning, the developers haven't released it because they say they do not feel this version is ready for prime time. Also, fair warning, I'm very new to Android, and this is the first time I've played with the SDK.  So, use this at your own risk.  I am not responsible if your Notes go missing.

You can click here in the Android browser to install Tomdroid with Ubuntu One sync.

After installing and running it, use the menu button, then settings. Select Server settings, and set the URL to:

https://one.ubuntu.com/notes

You will be sent to the browser to authenticate.  Once authenticated, in Tomdroid, use the menu button, and you should now see a Sync button that wasn't there before.  Click it, and all your Notes should show up soon.

Tomdroid devs - sorry to steal your thunder -- I just couldn't wait.

I'll check your piece of code right now. Should be a very useful thing. Tomdroid devs should have incuded it to the main branch asap.

Thanks for the info. I had allready builded it myself but I used the 'note from the web' to try and sync my notes which failed. Now it works!

I didn't make any changes to the tomdroid-sync branch.  I literally did no work, just compiled it into a APK.

    Hello!

I'm the author of the Tomdroid sync branch, nice to see at least someone is using it. As you pointed out, it's very much a work in progress but we'll get there eventually and we very much want this to be merged with the main branch and released.

As you seem to be knowledgeable enough to build from source and get some debug info, I'd love to get some feedback on the features or on bugs you may have encountered. Do not hesitate to join the mailing list and/or file bugs.

    Cheers

I tried running this. The notes seem to load fine from Ubuntu One (i can see the notes), but when I click on any note no content is displayed. I'm using this on a N1.

Tomdroid could be the killer app that many of us are looking for on the Android platform. I've been using Gnotes on Ubuntu for ages but will switch back to Tomboy in order to setup syncing (WebDAV would be *excellent*) with my Droid. Thanks for your help on the Tomdroid project. It looks like it could use more input - do you have time to help them move things to a point where we can at least just do the basics reliably: create/edit/save notes (with linking)? That would be great!

It seems to be broken and won't work on my HTC Desire, with Android 2.1. Thought you should know :)

Tomdroid doesn't support note editing, regardless of whether you are syncing with Ubuntu One.  I'm sure it's on just about everyone on the project's wish list.  But it would be no small task.  I spent some time looking into it, but quickly realized it was bigger than I could bite off right now.
